Google Releases Standalone Gesture Keyboard App

In its quest to dominate Android apps and crowd out 3rd-party alternatives, Google has released an app version of the stock Jelly Bean gesture keyboard. You can get it here.

I still prefer Swype for its customization, but this is a good alternative for anyone stranded on ICS or buried under an OEM keyboard. As is fast becoming the standard with Android apps, this app requires Android 4.0 or later.

Jelly Bean devices with the keyboard already installed will receive this app as an update. In a subtle, but perhaps meaningful change, it changes its nomenclature from “Android keyboard” to “Google keyboard.”
